Pro-Tec Plumbing, Water & Gas is a full-service water system organization in Naples, Florida, co-owned by brothers Richard (Rick) and Brandon Hume. The Humes are young entrepreneurs with dedication, passion and undeniable work ethic. Under their leadership, Pro-Tec has grown into a team of individuals with a passion for change. We see the plumbing business as it could be, with new products, technology…even whole new ways of doing business. Our goal is to be the premiere full-service water system organization. We use technology that streamlines and enhances our customers’ plumbing experiences. We are virtually paperless, with our job specifications, blueprints, checklists, layout approvals, photos, product catalogs and invoices accessed online. Our customized software platform allows us to run the operations of our business with ease from start to finish.

Our History

Our story starts in Plymouth, Massachusetts, where brothers Rick and Brandon Hume lived until the early 2000s. Rick originally worked with his father, who managed a company that cleaned up and recycled hazardous waste. Here, Rick’s primary responsibilities were constructing large scale plumbing for oil refineries and waste water treatment plants.

His next job had him working at a plumbing supply house as a delivery driver, where he was then offered a job from a customer to be a plumber’s helper. Rick got his feet wet as an apprentice until 2005, when he decided to move to Florida. He joined a small plumbing company, where he managed the trucks, did estimates and invoicing, and made company decisions.

Rick became very passionate about plumbing, and in early 2008 he passed the exams to become a licensed master plumber. Within the year he was laid off thanks to the sinking economy, but that didn’t stop him. He activated his plumbing license, became the president of Pro-Tec Plumbing, and hit the ground running on January 1, 2009.

Brandon, a passionate golfer, moved to Florida in 2004 to attend Florida Gulf Coast University. Despite becoming an accomplished junior golfer, his dream of business ultimately prevailed, and he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance. After graduation, he helped Rick hand-dig Pro-Tec’s first residential home in 2009. In 2011, Brandon decided to join forces with his brother permanently as the company’s vice president and co-owner, running the operation and office side of the business.
